A recent study conducted by a German university found very high concentrations of Glyphosate, a carcinogenic chemical found in herbicides like Monsanto’s Roundup, inall urine samples tested. The amount of glyphosate found in the urine was staggering, with each sample containing concentrations at 5 to 20-fold the limit established for drinking water. This is just one more piece of evidence that herbicides are, at the very least, being sprayed out of control.
Glyphosate in Monsanto’s Roundup Impacting Global Health
This news comes only one month after it was found that glyphosate, contained in Monsanto’s Roundup, is contaminating the groundwater in the areas in which it is used. What does this mean? It means that toxic glyphosate is now polluting the world’s drinking water through the widespread contamination of aquifers, wells and springs. The recent reports of glyphosate showing up in all urine samples only enhances these past findings.
Monsanto continues to make the claim that their Roundup products are completely safe for both animals and humans. However many environmentalists, scientists , activists, and even doctors say otherwise. Glyphosate radically affects the metabolism of plants in a negative way. It is a systemic poison preventing the formation of essential amino acids, leading to weakened plants which ultimately die from it.
A formula seems to have been made to not only ruin the agricultural system, but also compromise the health of millions of people worldwide. With the invent of Monsanto’s Roundup Ready crops, resistant superweeds are taking over farmland and public health is being attacked. As it turns out, glyphosate is also leaving behind its residue on Roundup Ready crops, causing further potential concern for public health. Glyphosate is even contributing to escalating rates of mental illness and obesity through the depletion of beneficial gut flora that directly regulates these functions. But it certainly doesn’t stop there.
Researchers tested roundup on mature male rats at a concentration range between 1 and 10,000 parts per million (ppm), and found that within 1 to 48 hours of exposure, testicular cells of the mature rats were either damaged or killed. Even at a concentration of 1 ppm, the Roundup was able to affect the test subjects by decreasing their testosterone concentrations by as much as 35%.

Why Your Government May Murder You for Profit
Terrorism isn’t real. This is a broad generalization but essentially correct. My own estimate, as a “big name” counter-terrorism expert is that 95% of acts we call “terrorism” were done by governments for profit. Were it not for the dissolution of the free press and secret prisons and mental hospitals for whistleblowers, we wouldn’t have terrorism.
Which government? You choose. Of late, Israel has the lead but the US and Russia aren’t far behind. Then we have France and Britain.
We crash airliners, the Israeli’s are specialists at car bombs, almost artists, we spread crop diseases, test interesting new diseases on the general public, occasionally releasing a new strain of influenza on the New York subway.
Fear is a business and without fear, you don’t have hate. Mix fear and hate and you have dictatorial control of any political system. There can be no democracy when a population lives in fear. As soon as the first “terror alert” comes out, you can be certain of one thing, you are living in a police state.
From then on, everything you will hear is about keeping you and your family safe and how you have to keep an eye out for those around you, anyone could be a terrorist or perhaps a subversive, especially if they ask too many questions about why everyone running for office seems a bit “off.”
Imagine this is December 2001. You are in an airport. A group of dark skinned foreigners sit nearby. What are your first thoughts? Will they cut off your head or will they crash the plane into a building somewhere. Lie to me and tell me you haven’t thought that.
You had that thought. They day you did was the day you lost your freedom. You have been a slave every since. That was the plan, that is the plan that’s why we have terrorism. If we didn’t have Al Qaeda, someone would invent it. How does this sound?
The truth?
We did invent it. If you want to know where the people live who wish you and your family ill, go to Washington DC. Meet your Senator of member of Congress. Invite them to lunch with your family. Try it again, but offer them $50,000 as an incentive, your chances will be a bit better.
Got friends in Homeland Security, high up? Tell them you invented a new secret way of making millions of people really sick. In about an hour, a pharmaceutical company will call you. You will never travel “coach” again.
Here’s another one. If you say you want to build a bomb and kill the president, you have an expectation that the Secret Service will visit you soon and you are likely to be subjected to a psychiatric examination.
Do this: Call up the head of the Republican party, tell him you are a “preacher” and have a big congregation. Tell him you are looking for a nuclear weapon and you want to kill the president. See if you don’t have your picture taken with New Gingrich within a week.
We do have “extremism,” mind you. If all extremists are the same then most of them are in governments in what we call “the west.” The Likudists, a racist “ultra-nationalist” group that took power in Israel through rigged elections and assassinations is top of my list. They believe non-Jews are animals, will murder, not just Palestinians but hundreds of their own people and are oblivious to the welfare of Israel or the Jewish people. They are simply nuts.
Problem is, they are also useful. As hate mongers, they have helped keep ten years of war going, have helped run terror organizations that have attacked dozens of countries, they are a useful tool just like the Saudis.
Where the Likudists may have helped stage 9/11 and 7/7 and about 800 other terror attacks we know of, and every intelligence officer knows this, the Saudis spend their oil billions, many at least, keeping Islam enslaved and ignorant.
They are quite a pair actually. Israel will blow up a car in Baghdad and the Shiites and Sunnis there will fight each other.
Israel makes billions on the war, the Saudi’s cheer it on, seeing Iraq kept busy killing each other instead of massing troops to seize their oil, what could be better?
The US is the biggest part. We actually hire Israelis to organize terror cells that pretend to be “Al Qaeda.” Both Susan Lindauer and Sibel Edmonds, along with many others in government, found this out, that the 9/11 “hijackers” were really protected by the government and when they tried to tell the truth, both were silenced.
Others were killed, military officers by the hundreds, thousands even, were passed over for promotion and thrown out, and the CIA was disbanded and taken over by a privatized group managed by the GOP. In fact, every source of information given to any “intelligence group” was “compartmentalized,” all total fiction, all written like stage plays, with mythical bad guys all hired to dress up like terrorists.
Planes can’t knock down steel buildings, nothing can. “But I saw….”
Did you now? Hmmm.
Oklahoma City should have been a clue. It was an FBI operation from the start, McVeigh, an Army Ranger moved into a “black ops” domestic terror group, aided by the FBI was more than obvious.
Years ago, the Russians put out a CNN press release. I have put it in print on a couple of occasions. A block of apartment buildings was destroyed by “terrorists.” They put a bomb in a small postal van.
The size of the bomb was estimated at 300 tons. The string of postal vans necessary to carry the bomb responsible would have been a mile long.
Think about Oklahoma City. A “fertilizer bomb,” a “low acceleration” explosive, would have broken windows for 300 yards and thrown truck parts into buildings. Half a dozen or more people would have been killed.
What wouldn’t have happened is 40 feet of steel superstructure vaporizing into mist, concrete floors turning to dust. With fertilizer so cheap, a bomb that would cost more than a thousand dollars to build, with used rental trucks going for $200 bucks, you might wonder why nobody ever did a test.
I can answer that. The “bang” would have been…disappointing.
We could get an old airliner, fly it into one of the abandoned hotels outside Las Vegas. No floors would “pancake” nor would fire melt any steel.
We could do another one, get one of the hundreds of scrap airliners, install an Israeli designed autopilot and skid it across a lawn into a building. It would take a crew of 50 days to pick up the napkins, plastic and aluminum scraps, not to speak of the wings, engines and tail assembly which would have bounced into the air and tumbled half a kilometer.
Then, of course, the planes would have been reconstructed, every single piece evidence of a crime, required by federal law to be kept, not to be thrown into a public landfill or sold to China as though it were a batch of Patriot missiles or nuclear weapons plans.
This is how a transportation accident is investigated. This is how a real tragedy is treated in a real nation with real laws, an investigation done by real people looking for the real truth:
This is the investigation that was never held after 9/11. Now take a look at another famous incident. Metal detectors were used to find every rivet and bolt from this plane, going over mile after mile of Scotland:
Then again, we can show you the “reconstruction” of the biggest terror event in history. You will love this one. This is the site of the only “accident reconstruction” from 9/11.
If you were wondering, they aren’t waiting for more parts, this is a junk yard on Staten Island. This, the only evidence from 9/11, is being sold for junk, less than $50. Had they thought about it more, they might have put it on Ebay, where it could have brought in hundreds as a lawn ornament or cocktail party curiousity. I wonder if Skull and Bones might want to have this, perhaps they do, put next to Geronimo’s skull.
HOW TO TELL
If you read it in the papers or see it on TV, it probably isn’t true except for sports and weather, in which case it simply might not be true.
Generally, if you are told of a terrorist threat, it is someone lying to you. “I am going to build a big bomb, so come and find me and kill me and my family, my neighbors and invade my country?
Understand?
Let’s say a company leases a huge building complex, one mostly empty, filled with asbestos and puts tons of insurance on it. If it is hit by an airplane and within 5 minutes TV commentators are talking about who did it, and you believe them, you have a problem.
Here is another one.
If there is a killing or bombing, the group that “investigates and interprets” the intelligence or “news story” is invariably the ones who did the killing or set off the bomb.
They know about it because they did it.
When someone tells you someone else is bad and planning to do something evil, you can generally depend on the one doing the talking as being bad and the evil they are talking about is something they are planning themselves and hoping to blame on someone else.
SOME PAINFUL FACTS
Whenever something happens that “doesn’t fit,” take notice. Here are some predictions based on things that “don’t fit:
- A number of senators will resign, decide not to run, get cancer or die in plane or automobile crashes, enough to give the GOP the majority
- If the current phony Ron Paul racism scandal fails, he will be assassinated
- President Obama may drop out of the race in favor of Hillary Clinton
- Discussions of drug smuggling and illegal immigration will taper off until after the election. Too many candidates are taking money from these sources.
An afterthought that I can’t do anything about. We have reliable information that a nuclear weapon is inside the US, I believe in the area in and around Chicago. It is 13.2 kilotons, gun type, under the control of a rogue Israeli element employed by an organization in Switzerland, you could call it Vatican or Freemason or Zionist, it doesn’t matter. Every American intelligence agency, every “tier one” group (look that up) and key members of the government are aware.
Some recent actions of high ranking officials have been based on threats to set that weapon off as an act of terror. For those of authority, this is the “6th of 5 that were ten less one.”
Understand?
The real object? It may be to force an American attack on Iran but this is probably only a feint. Truth is, I don’t know, I only know the design of the weapon, who delivered it as far as Chicago, that it disappeared, that it is being looked for and that threats have been made.
I know who built the weapon, no problem with that. It is not very new and quite unsophisticated. It is actually built inside a World War II era 8 inch cannon barrel. I am only saying this to upset people who don’t think this much has leaked out. I could name the mines in Katanga where the uranium came from or use terms like “80 millisecond” to describe a blast characteristic.
Like they say on Burn Notice, spies are a chatty lot.
In the end, we always return to Marine General, Medal of Honor winner Smedley Butler. War is a racket or, more correctly, it is all about money.
What do we know? We know people who believe they are gods, we are speaking of those who are so delusional they believe they hold the fate of planet earth in their hands, feel 2 billion people are enough.
We know their vision, the dream of an earlier era of a world less crowded, populations who are unquestioningly obedient. We also know the tens of thousands who serve them are being played, thinking they will be the feudal lords in a post apocalyptic hell.
They believe science will give them nearly eternal life through gene therapy, that they will living with their every sexual depredation catered to as though they were Russian oligarchs.
Several of them are GOP presidential candidates, guess which ones.
These are, of course, psychopaths, one rules one of our allies, once a great colonial power, someone driven to excess as a young man at exclusive schools, now utterly insane.
Few are public, one a great press magnate, a modern day “Citizen Kane.”
So many of them are utterly insane. Read the papers any day of the week. What you read of the poor and despised, lives twisted by poverty, drugs, crime and hopelessness, those who see themselves as the ruling class are worse.
Ever hear of Caligula? I am sure at least some of you have hear of Gaddafi, a devout Muslim, stoked up on Viagra we are told, bottle after bottle of champagne while sexual partners were lined up outside his door.
Is any of this true? Maybe not, as since we read it in the papers, how could it be true?
But is it true? Of course it is but of whom?

You have been hearing Europe is broke but what you have heard has been filtered through newspapers and TV stations owned by “certain groups” paid to lie to you.
Your information is useless, as usual, like everything else you think you know.
Let me tell you a short story and then drop some minor facts any 2 year old could check that will, we hope, make you question other things.
Other than peddling lies on the internet, correct that, “information” that contradicts the harmful mythology peddled by media with an agenda quite directly orchestrated by organized crime syndicates, I work in murders and executions, tied to the defense industry.
This, of course, is a childish joke. Business school folks have an underdeveloped sense of humor. “Murders and executions” means “mergers and acquisitions.”
The defense industry is built on one failed company built out of “hot air and bullshit” buying others of the same, starting a revenue stream through bribery and being bought off by a larger shark.

- Germany is buried in debt and lying about it. Half the people heat with firewood and are on some kind of public assistance financed with counterfeit money and they have the audacity to criticize Greece or America.
- France is lying about their debt, they are actually far worse than this but are pleasant and wonderfully polite. I love France.
- Blaming Italy, Ireland, Greece, Portugal, etc, is nothing but a childish game. The entire EU, though largely disarmed, poorly governed and falling apart is what so many of us have always known, the world’s center for bullshit.
There is a reason I don’t invest in Swiss Franc’s. Each bill or coin should have a picture of Alfred E. Newman.
The World is Floating in Oil and Gas – Yet Prices are Still High – Have You Wondered Why?
Right now, Israel, France and Russia are figuring out a way to keep the war in Afghanistan going while suckering America into moving troops into Northern Nigeria. I expect to be heading there soon, a good chance for some to get a shot at me. Good luck with that!
They are afraid cheap African natural gas will destroy their monopoly so they are acting just like they were the Capone gang, which is exactly what they are.
In the Persian Gulf, we are seeing exactly the same thing. Iran and some “friends” are involved in a complicated theatre to push up oil prices.
Check today’s Bloomberg, although I cringe whenever mentioning the name of someone with such a reptilian demeanor.
Screw the current crisis, ignore Israel other than to forcibly strip the Zios of Gaza and the West Bank and pretend Iran isn’t there. If you look at their military, Iran really isn’t there.
Do take a second to note that today, Iran put out a press release that they produced their first nuclear fuel rod. This is a nice, decent and peaceful thing but the announcement was a challenge.
They just put a shot across the bow of another crooked monopoly. The whole thing is organized crime especially the news. Calling reporters and editors pimps is a kindness.
The deal? Europe is being scammed into an unseen level of poverty by inflated fuel prices, price fixing in gasoline and diesel, price fixing in natural gas while keeping food prices low.
Ouch! – Can You Say Reversal of Fortune?
Try driving across Italy now. Why can’t you see or breathe? They are cooking their meals with sticks they pick up in the woods.
In southern Italy, they don’t even have sticks.
Why is all this happening? Why is Europe in hidden poverty while newspapers and news organizations continually print utter lies about everything from foreign policy to economics?
The answer is simple.
The only real wars, the only real conflicts are between the organized crime syndicates, Israel and the Rothschilds and their thieving American partners against the Freemasons and the gang at the Vatican.
Oversimplified? Perhaps. Or perhaps not.

ACTU president Ged Kearney says a new long-term strategy is needed to keep the car industry afloat.
Toyota has axed 350 jobs from its Victorian factory, citing poor global confidence, a rising Australian dollar and an ensuing cut in demand.
Ms Kearney said government support was vital to maintain jobs in the industry.
“I think with a bit of thought and a bit of tripartite (union, industry and government) consideration we can hold it together,” Ms Kearney told ABC Television on Tuesday.
“We’ve been in this situation before when we thought the car industry would collapse. We pulled together a plan … we can do that again.”
But she said unions wanted to see more transparency in the system, to ensure taxpayers were getting value for money out of the billions of dollars spent in industry assistance.
“Is that money being spent on innovation? Is it being spent on new ways that they can stay relevant to the market?” she said.
“Is it being spent on trying to save jobs?
“These are questions the union movement will be asking Toyota and the government.”
Ms Kearney said high-tech, highly-skilled manufacturing was crucial for the future of the Australian economy, especially when the mining boom ends.

A massive demonstration has shaken the Damascus suburb of Saqba, that has fallen under the control of the Free Syrian Army. RT’s Sara Firth traveled to the rebel-controlled area to explore how the fighters managed to overcome superior forces.
Clashes between Assad’s armed forces and the Free Syrian Army continue in many parts of the country including the capital. Some Damascus suburbs have seen nearly two dozen killed in the past two days, with buildings heavily shelled by regime loyalists. At least two people have been killed in the suburb of Saqba on Friday.
RT’s Sara Firth travelled to this area with other members of the press, while the Arab League observers, who initially led the group, decided to circle around the central part of Damascus.
The Free Syrian Army is now in control of the area, Firth says. They took journalists to the center of the suburb, where a massive anti-government demonstration was taking place. A funeral procession was going on at the same time.
Many of the Free Syrian Army members are in fact defectors who joined the opposition. While the government security forces rely mostly on heavy weaponry, the Free Syrian Army tends to use light weaponry and guerilla tactics, which has allowed them to capture Saqba and other areas, Sara Firth said after talking with some of the rebels.
In many parts of the county it is not clear who is actually in control. The situation is certainly very dangerous for civilians, Firth says.
Meanwhile, activists say that at least 30 people have been killed during the last day of mortar and machine-gun attacks in the city of Homs, besieged by the Syrian Army. The report, however, couldn’t be independently verified on the ground.
As the situation is deteriorating, the UN has stopped updating the death toll for the Syrian uprising. According to the UN human rights chief, Navi Pillay, it is too hard to get credible information about the situation on the ground.

Cancer will only heal when the toxic load is decreased and an internal biochemical environment is achieved that only produces health and not disease. Is chemotherapy the best choice when you are diagnosed with cancer? To answer this you must look at what chemotherapy’s success rate has been. In an Australian study, researchers stated: “in lung cancer, the median survival has increased by only 2 months during the past 20 years and an overall survival benefit of less than 5 percent has been achieved in the treatment of breast, colon and head and neck cancers.” This study showed that chemotherapy’s 5-year survival in adults was 2.1 percent in the USA.
So if chemotherapy is not the cancer cure, what is? The answer is not found in curing the disease but in increasing the level of health in the body, so it can do what it was designed to do, which is heal. To heal cancer you must treat the cause and not the effect. You must balance all the systems of the body naturally instead of targeting one organ or gland with toxic medication that negatively affects all other systems of the body.
According to the homotoxicology model of cancer formation, cancer is the end result of toxic buildup in the cells which causes them to dedifferentiate into cancer stem cells in order to survive in a toxic environment. The nucleus of the cell is where the DNA and genetic material are made. When toxins enter into the nucleus, the cell has one final attempt to survive: it dedifferentiates into a stem cell to try to adapt to this toxic environment. The stem cell can change into any cell type and grow very rapidly.
Toxic chemotherapy cannot heal cancer, but instead it only increases the toxic load in the cells more, which causes the cells to produce even more resistant cancer stem cells. The term in cancer therapy is MDR or multiple drug resistance. When these cancer stem cells are exposed to chemotherapy, they become resistant and even more aggressive in order to survive.
The dilemma arises when you keep putting more chemicals in the body to try to cure cancer and these very same chemicals cause cancer stem cells to become more aggressive. This is seen repeatedly with people that undergo chemotherapy; they see tumor shrinkage, but then the tumors grows back even more aggressively later. The reason this occurs is because chemotherapy does not kill cancer stem cells but only the outer core of the tumor, which is made of non-stem cell cancer cells. When cancer stem cells are exposed to these toxic chemicals, it simply makes them more aggressive and they produce more cancer cells, and the cancer will spread.
The only answer to cancer is found in bringing balance and homeostasis to each system of the body along with balancing the biochemical and mental/emotional states. When this is achieved, then healing will naturally occur, and the cancer stem cells will no longer have to produce more cancer cells because there will no longer be any toxicity in the body causing the cells to dedifferentiate into cancer stem cells. Alternative cancer treatment must focus on changing the internal environment instead of trying to kill cancer cells.

HYUNDAI’S new model onslaught will crank back into top speed this year after a relatively subdued six months, with the all-new Veloster coupe due here next month, followed by the new i30 hatchback, i40 sedan and Elantra Coupe, plus a redesigned Santa Fe.
The latter has now been confirmed to make its world debut at the New York motor show in April, following the internet leak of two grainy spy images of the new model this week, and the new Santa Fe could assume its new European nameplate – ix45 – when it goes on sale in Australia.
Hyundai’s Australian outfit will not confirm a local release date for either the next Santa Fe or the Korean brand’s all-new Elantra Coupe, which will make its global premiere at the Chicago show next month.
However it has confirmed the next-generation i30 (seen at last September’s Frankfurt show) will arrive here by mid-year, while the Veloster Turbo will join next month’s cheeky new three-door by the end of this year.
Nor will Hyundai reveal its Australian launch plans for the all-new i40 sedan, which has now received official regulatory approval and will soon slot into the booming mainstream brand’s mid-size passenger car range between the i45 sedan and i40 Tourer.

Just as this month’s new Accent diesel completes Hyundai’s light-car rollout alongside the petrol-only i20, the four-door i40 will not only give Hyundai a second medium sedan contender, but a second mid-size diesel offering.
First seen at the Barcelona show last May wearing a more subtle, European-focussed iteration of the US-centric i45’s ‘fluidic sculpture’ exterior design, the i40 sedan is essentially a booted version of the i40 Tourer, which went on sale here in October last year.
Like the i40 wagon, the sedan will be available with both 2.0-litre petrol and 1.7-litre diesel four-cylinder engines, both matched with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
That means the i40 petrol sedan will be priced somewhere between the i45 2.0 Active manual sedan ($26,990 plus on-road costs) and the i40 Tourer 2.0 Active manual wagon (from $32,490), while the i40 diesel sedan will cost less than the i40 Tourer Active diesel manual wagon (from $34,490).
The VF-series i40 sedan is also likely to follow the YF-series i45 sedan and (VF) i40 Tourer in being available here in three equipment grades, including the entry-level Active, mid-range Elite and top-shelf Premium, with diesel versions of the i40 wagon commanding a $2000 price premium over equivalent petrol models.
As with the i40 Tourer (but not the i45), the i40 sedan’s ‘Nu’ 2.0-litre GDI direct-injection petrol four delivers 130kW and 213Nm of torque, making it about 10kW more powerful and 15Nm torquier than the i45’s older port-injection 2.0-litre engine, which also lacks continuously variable valve timing and two-step variable induction.
Similarly, the i40 sedan will come with the same new 1.7-litre common-rail direct-injection four-cylinder turbo-diesel as the i40 Tourer, in which it produces 100kW and 330Nm (the latter between 2000 and 2500rpm), or 320Nm when paired with the six-speed auto.
With a manual transmission, the 2.0-litre i40 is claimed to hit 100km/h in 9.7 seconds, while the 1.7-litre diesel version does it in 10.6.
The 2.0-litre i40 Tourer returns fuel consumption of 6.8 litres per 100km (manual) and 7.5L/100km (base auto), while the i40 diesel returns just 4.7L/100km (Active manual, which therefore has a theoretical driving range of almost 1500km) and up to 6.0L/100km (Elite/Premium auto), so expect the lighter i40 sedan to be even more efficient in both guises.
While the diesel i40 sedan weighs 80kg more than the petrol model, both vehicles come with a 700kg towing capacity (1500kg braked). Both new i40 models should ride on 15-inch alloy wheels as standard, with the option of 17 and 18-inch alloys.
Like the i40 wagon, standard safety equipment will extend to electronic stability and traction control, ABS brakes and six airbags, brake assist, hill-start assist and automatic emergency stop signalling.
While day-time running lights and Xenon headlights with washers are optional in Europe, other high-tech i40 features in Europe include a self-parking system, lane-keeping assistance, ventilated front seats, heated and reclining rear seats, an electric parking brake, TFT (Thin Film Transistor) LCD instrument cluster, a rear-view camera and Bluetooth with voice recognition and satellite-navigation.
Like the i45, the i40 sedan will be fitted as standard with Amplitude Selective Damping (ASD) shock absorbers and hydraulic power steering that returns a turning circle of 10.92 metres, but the i40 has a slightly quicker steering ratio with 2.88 (versus 2.94) turns lock-to-lock.
As we’ve reported, the i40 sedan is more compact than the bolder i45, measuring 4740mm long (making it 80mm shorter), 1815mm wide (20mm narrower) and the same 1470mm high.
Riding on 25mm-shorter (2770mm) wheelbase than the i45, the German-designed i40 four-door is shorter than all but Suzuki’s Kizashi in Australia’s D-segment sedan category, yet is claimed to offer best-in-class front head, shoulder and leg room. The i40 sedan’s boot is 20 litres smaller than the i45’s at a still-large 503 litres.
The addition of the i40 sedan will give Hyundai a three-pronged attack in Australia’s burgeoning mainstream mid-size car market, which was most recently joined by Toyota’s new homegrown Camry and the fresh VW Passat, and will be bolstered within 12 months or so by the all-new Holden Malibu, Ford Mondeo and Mazda6.
Last year Australian sales of the i45 – launched here in May 2010 – soared by almost 140 per cent to 4872 vehicles, while the i40 Tourer found 394 homes in less than three months, together accounting for more than nine per cent of all sub-$60,000 mid-size vehicle sales and placing Hyundai fourth in class behind Toyota, Ford and Mazda.
In Europe, Hyundai expects diesel i40s to comprise 65 per cent of sales in a segment that is 75 per cent diesel there, with the i40 sedan forecast to comprise just 25 per cent of 60,000 annual i40 sales overall.

VOLKSWAGEN has fired another salvo in its progressive Amarok ute roll-out by introducing petrol power and a new, more efficient diesel alongside the existing 2.0-litre turbo diesel line-up.
The assault will continue later in the year when an eight-speed automatic transmission and single cab bodystyle will further expand the appeal of the Argentine-made one tonner that, despite rave reviews, has failed to set sales charts alight to date.
The new 2.0-litre turbo-charged petrol engine – dubbed TSI300 – is now available only in the entry 4×2 dual-cab Amarok from $30,590 in cab-chassis guise and $31,990 in ute.
The petrol engine delivers 118kW of power between 3800rpm and 5500 rpm, and 300Nm of torque from 1600 rpm, with VW claiming excellent throttle response from low rpm.
Combined-test fuel consumption for turbo petrol four is just 9.6 litres per 100km, compared with 11.0L/100km for the 2.7-litre 116KW four-cylinder petrol engine of the market-leading Toyota HiLux in its 4×2 duel cab guise.
The new addition to the 2.0-litre diesel engine range, the TDI340, develops 103kW of power and 340Nm of torque from 1750 to 2250rpm, while sipping 7.4L/100km, making it the most efficient Amarok to date.
For now, both engines can only be ordered with a six-speed manual transmission, although that might change when the eight-speed automatic transmission – a first in this class – arrives on the market in the third quarter of this year.

These engines can be ordered in both dual-cab body styles – ute or cab-chassis, as well as with either heavy duty or comfort suspension settings.
Along with the new engines, the Amarok gets a few equipment upgrades for 2012, including daytime running lights on all models.
A multifunction steering wheel is now standard equipment on the Amarok Highline and Ultimate models (and option on entry Amarok and Amarok Trendline), while the Ultimate also gets heated seats.
In the third quarter of 2012, Australia will become the second market in the world after Brazil to get the eight-speed auto option and single-cab body layout.
The eight-speeder will be available in all dual-cab models as an alternative to the six-speed manual that has be the sole gearbox since the vehicle’s launch globally.
At the same time, VW will step up the power of the Amarok by adding a high-performance diesel with 132kW of power and 420Nm or torque – 20Nm more than the current 400Nm engine – and 4Motion permanent four-wheel drive.
The arrival of the single cab – also in the third quarter – will provide a new entry level for the Amarok range, but VW director of commercial vehicles Phil Clark says it is too early to disclose pricing, saying only that it will be competitive.
“All I will say is that we are in the market to play and be competitive,” he said.
The single cab range will offer both petrol and diesel powertrains, and 4×2 and 4×4 drive systems.
In single cab, the new petrol 118kW turbo-charged 300TSI four-cylinder engine will only come in 4×2, as it does in the dual cab.
Also only available in 4×2 will be the base 90kW diesel TDI340, while the more powerful 120kW TDI400 will be the sole 4×4 offering, equipped with selectable 4Motion all-wheel drive.
VW is hoping the new variants will light a fire under Amarok sales, which had a sluggish start last year, not helped by having to sort the difficult supply train from Argentina that involves transhipping vehicles via either Panama or Durban, South Africa.
In 2011, VW sold 2649 Amaroks – well short of the main players.
In the mass-selling 4×4 ute segement, 2348 Amaroks were sold – only about 10 per cent of the market leader HiLux’s 23,725 units – and a lowly ninth place in the sales rankings.
Even so, Australia is the Amarok’s fourth biggest market after Brazil, Argentina and South Africa.

were shocked by a rapidly low-flying, silent, 40-foot-long triangle-shaped

By March 2012, as Grails A and B circle the moon at low altitude, regional changes in the lunar gravity field will cause them to speed up or slow down, changing the distance between them. Radio signals transmitted by the probes will measure the slight distance gaps, allowing scientists to map the underlying lunar gravity field. One question the Grail probes might be able to answer is why the moon’s far side has many more craters than the Earth-facing side. The Grails were launched in mid-September 2011 and took 3.5 months to reach the moon now rather than the astronaut timeline of three days because money was saved in a small rocket launch.

on November 7, 2011, at 11:45 AM PST when the space rock was
at 3.6 lunar distances, about 860,000 miles (1.38 million km), from Earth.
The next day November 8, at 3:28 PM Pacific, YU55 moved 30,000 mph closest
to Earth – 201,700 miles measured from the center of our planet. “Puzzling features” were
reported by NASA JPL, but no further images have been released since short videos
of November 7th images, including radar image above by NASA/JPL-Caltech.

NASA Kepler reports: “Kepler-20e orbits its parent star every 6.1 days and
Kepler-20f every 19.6 days. These short orbital periods mean very hot, inhospitable
worlds. Kepler-20f, at 800 degrees Fahrenheit, is similar to an average day on the
planet Mercury. The surface temperature of Kepler-20e, at more than 1,400 degrees F.

December 17, 2011 – Comet Lovejoy Crossed Sun’s Corona,
Lost Its Tail – Regrew Double Tail!
“SOHO images show two tails: the ion tail and the dust tail.
The ion tail is made of gas and is blown directly away from the sun
by the solar wind. The heavier dust tail is curved and more
closely traces the comet’s orbit.”
Sturdy Comet Lovejoy came within 75,000 miles
of the sun’s surface through the hot corona on Thursday night,
December 15, 2011. U. S. Navy solar researcher Karl Battams said,
“I was delighted when I saw it go into the sun, and I was astounded
when I saw something re-emerge.” Only 10% of the original icy comet
survived, losing its tail when it broke off near the sun. But by
December 17, 2011, SOHO’s coronograph above shows new dust tail

Fourteen thousand people around the world tuned in to the 2 PM Geneva / 8 AM Eastern webcast (that had technical problems throughout) from CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, to hear if the illusive Higgs boson, or “God particle,” has been found in the Large Hadron Collider intense research of 2011. The answer is Not yet, but: “We observe an excess of events around 126 GeV (Giga electron Volts),” said Fabiola Gianotti, Ph.D., head of the ATLAS research, one of two major scientific and engineering teams trying to find a Higgs boson particle. The other is CMS headed by Guido Tonelli, who also reported that 124 – 126 GeV “is the region where, if you see excess events, there’s a hint that something is up.”

Kepler-22b circles a star 600 light-years from Earth around a yellow sun very similar to our own sun. Kepler-22b orbits its sun at about the same 93 million miles distance that Earth orbits our sun. Further, Kepler-22b’s solar orbit is 290 days versus Earth’s 365.25 days. Kepler-22b likely has water and rocks similar to Earth. But the biggest difference is that Kepler-22b is 2.4 times Earth’s size, so it might be more like Neptune, a gaseous planet that has a rocky core and mostly ocean. “It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that life could exist in such an ocean,” said Natalie Batalha, Kepler Deputy Science Chief.

Our solar system is the tiny rectangle depicted at the center of the
most massive black hole ever discovered. In fact the black hole is seven times larger
than Pluto’s orbit. This gigantic black hole in the galaxy NGC 3842, at a
distance of 331 million light-years from Earth, was reported by
Gemini Observatory. This artist’s illustration of the black hole at the center of

November 27, 2011 – Curiosity Rover Has Launched for Mars.

Gale Crater is 62 miles (100 km) in diameter on Mars with a huge
3 miles high (5 km) mound of sediments in the middle, taller than the crater rim.
The fact that this mound is so high implies that the crater is likely very old, was completely
buried and then its many minerals re-exposed that the Curiosity rover will explore.

The Russian Phobos-Grunt spacecraft launched on November 9, was also headed to Mars, but is still stranded in orbit around Earth. That was Russia’s fourth attempt in fifteen years to reach Mars and its Phobos moon. Phobos-Grunt was designed to bring back rock and soil samples from the Martian moon Phobos and also is carrying China’s first Mars satellite, Yinghuo-1.

November 18, 2011 – Neutrinos Still Faster Than Light?
CERN’s Oscillation Project (OPERA) repeated an improved experiment 20 times sending bunches of neutrinos from CERN through 454 miles of rock to the giant detector at the INFN-Gran Sasso laboratory in Italy and found almost exactly the same controversial result: neutrinos are moving faster than light.
“This additional test we made is confirming our original finding,
but still we have to be very prudent, still we have to look forward
to independent confirmation. But this is a positive result.”

Bunches of neutrinos created at the Cern facility in Geneva, Switzerland,
(produced as decays within a long bunch of protons) sped through 454 miles (732 km)
of rock to a giant detector at the INFN-Gran Sasso laboratory in Italy. These neutrino
bunches – like the first experiments – found that the neutrinos arrived 60 billionths
of a second faster than light would have, travelling unimpeded over the same distance.

GMOs Have Created Stronger Weeds – Now “Agent Orange”

January 27, 2012 Fairfield, Iowa – In December 2011, the United States Department of Agriculture announced approval of another genetically engineered corn manufactured by Monsanto that allegedly is “drought tolerant.” Behind the scenes, USDA received over 40,000 public comments opposing the new Monsanto GMO corn.

Further, USDA announced a 60-day public comment period until February 27, 2012, about a Dow AgroSciences request to market yet another genetically engineered corn with a systemic poison built into its genes – this one designed to resist the herbicide 2,4-D, an ingredient of Agent Orange used in Vietnam. The reason is that Monsanto’s RoundupReady corn that is resistant to the weed killer glyphosate has now created “Superweeds” that Roundup can’t kill!
According to USDA figures, 94% of soybeans and more than 70% of corn and cotton planted in the U.S. contain the Roundup-resistant gene that is creating Superweeds.
Before 1996, weeds such as those sprouting in crop field above, were not observed
to have evolved resistance to glyphosate in the field. But since the introduction of GMO
transgenic glyphosate tolerant crops, the number of glyphosate-resistant weeds has
dramatically increased, particularly during the post-emergent growth of the crops.
So now, 2,4-D would be a different, stronger poison in new genetically engineered corn to maybe this time keep the weeds under control. But there is no guarantee that weeds won’t keep changing their resistance patterns to accommodate whatever toxins humans try to put on them. Many scientists and biotech researchers are very concerned that a vicious cycle of GMO crops and Superweeds will lead to ever-increasing poisons that will harm innocent insects, animals, plants and humans.

The United States accounts for nearly two-thirds of all biotechnology crops planted globally. Since 1996, the United States has consistently planted more GMO crops than any other country. Total acres of genetically modified corn, soybeans, cotton, and canola planted in the United States in 2006 totaled 128.3 million acres – an increase of nearly 10% more GMOs planted than in 2005.
In addition to large farming of soy, corn, cotton, canola, and alfalfa, other smaller GMO crops now include sugar beets, zucchini, crooked neck squash, and Hawaiian papaya. Meanwhile, data keeps piling up about human allergies, sick and dying animals and amphibians linked to interactions with GMOs. One man is convinced that GMOs should be eliminated from the world’s agriculture. He is Jeffrey Smith, author of the best selling 2003 book, Seeds of Deception. His follow-up book title sums up what the world is doing with genetically engineered crops: Genetic Roulette – The documented health risks of genetically engineered foods released in 2007.
Recently I asked Jeff how dangerous he thinks the new genetically engineered corn with 2, 4-D by DowAgro Sciences could be if the USDA approves it for commercial planting.

[ Editor's Note: Wikipedia. 2,4-D (Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid) during the long Vietnam War was manufactured for the U.S. Department of Defense primarily by Monsanto Corporation and Dow Chemical. It is the most widely used herbicide in the world, and the third most commonly used in North America. 2,4-D is a synthetic auxin (plant hormone) used in laboratories for plant research and was a major ingredient in a 50:50 mixture with 2,4,5-T to produce Agent Orange used in the Vietnam war to kill broadleaf plants. Vietnam estimates Agent Orange killed or maimed 400,000 people and 500,000 children were born with birth defects. The name derived from the color of the orange-striped 55 U.S. gallon barrels in which the toxin was shipped. So (if approved), it will increase human exposure, animal exposure, and environmental exposure. We know this because the most common genetically modified crops are these herbicide-tolerant crops – the most popular is called Roundup Ready.
Roundup is brand name of Monsanato-manufactured
herbicide that has been genetically built into the gene structure
of Monsanto genetically engineered seeds that are supposed to produce
genetically modified crops (GMOs) such as soy and corn that won’t be
killed by the systemic Roundup glyphosate when it is sprayed to kill
weeds. The problem is that weeds in GMO fields have become resistant
to glyphosate. The ironic consequence is that weeds in GMO crops have
grown bigger and stronger than before the genetically modified crops were planted.

Jeffrey Smith: “RoundupReady crops are designed to be sprayed with Roundup (herbicide to kill weeds) and not die. As a result of these RoundupReady crops, there’s been a huge increase in the use of Roundup in the United States. So much so that according to the U. S. Geological Survey, 60% to 100% of the samples taken from the air and water in the Midwest contain traces of Roundup.
Now, this fact in itself has dramatic health implications. Roundup is linked to cancer, to placental cell deaths, to endocrine disruption, to birth defects. It also chelates minerals so that they are unavailable for use by plants, animals and humans. Most of the plants that are eaten by livestock in the U. S. are RoundupReady. This means that they are generally nutrient-deficient where minerals like manganese and zinc and others are completely unavailable to the plant. Then the animals eat the plants. They end up nutrient-deficient and they are dying or sick in large numbers. And then we eat the sick and nutrient-deficient plants and animals and also have higher toxic load from the Roundup.
IT’S MY UNDERSTANDING BECAUSE WE HAVE HAD THIS GENETICALLY ENGINEERED CROP COMING THROUGH MONSANTO WITH ROUNDUP BUILT INTO IT, THAT WEEDS ARE GETTING STRONGER AND BIGGER AND THAT WHAT DOW AGRO SCIENCE WANTS TO USE IN THIS 2, 4-D WILL BE LIKE AN EXPONENTIAL INCREASE IN THE USE OF A TOXINTHAT GOES BEYOND ROUNDUP BECAUSE ROUNDUP DOES NOT WORK ANY MORE. THE WEEDS ARE GETTING STRONGER.
Exactly. Right now there are herbicide-tolerant weeds on about 140 million acres in the United States – huge tracks of land have been completely abandoned by farmers because they don’t have the tools to deal with these weeds. In the south, cotton fields are being invaded by pigweed that can grow 10 feet tall, have stems the size of baseball bats and shed 400,000 seeds so they are like the weed from hell.
Now the biotech industry, rather than acknowledging and admitting that they have a failed technology, which ends up working against farmers is simply trying to apply another silver magic bullet that will then increase the toxic load of humans and animals as well. So, they are just following one level of toxic-creating technology with another.

Ballot Initiative to Label GMOs
MEANING THAT THEY WIRE THE CONGRESS AND AUTHORITIES WITH MONEY?
Exactly. Now, where they have the greatest weakness is in the general concern about genetically modified foods in the consuming population. In California in November 2012, there is going to be a ballot initiative for mandatory labeling of GMOs. We think that if GMOs are required to be labeled since most Americans say they would avoid them if labeled, the companies would immediately remove GMOs before that rule takes place.
So this could be a game changer. The signatures for the ballot initiative will be collected between mid-February and mid-April 2012, and we urge everyone in California to go to:

Since the 1990s, we have repeatedly asked the FDA, the USDA, our legislators and the courts to label food that contain genetically modified organisms. They haven’t. It’s time for Californians to vote on labeling genetically engineered foods.”
Become a petition-gatherer. Make sure you sign a petition and then help get the word out because we expect Monsanto and friends to spend tens of millions of dollars – if not $100 million – to try to misinform the population of California so that for some reason they vote against knowing what is in their food. Monsanto did this in Oregon where they convinced people not to vote for a mandatory labeling bill in 2002, based on lies in their TV commercials.
WHAT DO YOU THINK MONSANTO’S FIGHT BACK WILL BE?
I think they are going to say like they did in Oregon in 2002, that families will have to pay $X number of dollars – I think it was $555 per year – if they passed this measure. Now, we know that’s a lie because it doesn’t cost anything to the manufacturers to simply add a label that contains GMOs. It’s just changing wording on the label.
We’re also going to be launching a campaign to save children and babies from genetically modified foods on Earth Day this year. We’re seeing an unprecedented rise and signs of a coming tipping point. The non-GMO label is already the third fastest growing label claim on all products sold in the grocery store.

And when I’ve spoken to a former Monsanto scientist, he told me that he was aware of a feeding study done at Monsanto where they fed rodents genetically modified corn and there were problems with the rodents. So instead of withdrawing the corn, Monsanto simply re-wrote the study so it would appear to be less damaging.
You know, genetically engineered crops and foods carry a risk exposure that might be greater than anything we’ve seen short of nuclear meltdown. The longevity of contamination in the gene pool might be forever. We have no technology to clean up a contaminated gene pool. The genes released already can outlast the effects of global warming and nuclear waste. But we have seen an unbelievably organized effort on every major country on every continent by Monsanto and others to corrupt the regulatory process, to buy their representatives within the government, and to persist with certain lies that have been proven to be lies:
- that GMOs will feed the world. GMOs actually works against that.
- that GMOs will increase yield. GMOs actually reduces yield on average.
- that GMOs will decrease agricultural chemicals. GMOs actually increases them.
- that GMOs are proven safe. Now we know that’s not true.
In fact, the American Academy of Environmental Medicine says [ see Websites below] that the animal-feeding studies are so convincing showing reproductive problems, immune system problems, accelerated aging and organ damage, that every doctor should prescribe non-GMO diets to every patient.
MicroRNA Research –
GMOs Could Be Hazardous to Eat
In early 2012, Chinese researchers at Nanjing University reported studies of rice consumption that showed genetic material called “MicroRNA” from the rice can survive digestion and bind to proteins in human liver cells influencing human cell function. Atlantic.com wrote about the implications of the Chinese study [ see Websites below]: “Should the research survive scientific scrutiny, it could prove to be a game changer in many fields. It would mean that we are not just eating vitamins, protein and fuel, but genetic information that can change our DNA. The Chinese microRNA study threatens to blast a major hole in Monsanto’s claim that GMOs are safe. This new research means that DNA can code for microRNA, which can in fact be hazardous after eating genetically modified foods.”
Jeffrey Smith: “There has been a concern among scientists for many years about the potential dangerous effects of RNA created from genetically modified organisms. The research coming out of China is new, but it’s not creating a new field. It’s just verifying what everyone had suspected who has been looking at this for the last decade. In fact, back in 1997, a study in the Journal of Immunology showed that the RNA from shrimp could create allergic or immune system responses. So, RNA in itself can illicit immune responses in humans and mammals.
Moreover, there is an understanding that microRNA cannot only affect gene expression in mammals, but that it can affect it in such a way that it lasts to the offspring and their offspring. In other words, it reprograms gene expression that can then be inherited.
THE IMPLICATION IS THAT IT WILL CODE BACK TO THE DNA AND THAT WE COULD BE ON REALLY THIN GROUND HERE ON WHAT THE CONSEQUENCES OF GENETICALLY MODIFIED ENGINEERED CROPS FROM THE 1990S GOING FORWARD WILL MEAN FOR A GENERATION FROM NOW?
Exactly! And there are studies that show that in humans in the bloodstream of pregnant women, there is RNA from the foetus. It seems to be, according to the researchers, a mechanism for communication and that these RNA can also affect the endocrine system. So we know that the RNA is a huge portion of the gene regulation mechanism.”

Sec. 1022. Military custody for foreign al-Qaeda terrorists.
January 27, 2012 Washington, D. C. – The 2012 Fiscal Year National Defense Authorization Act, known also as the NDAA, was signed into United States law on New Year’s Eve December 31, 2011, by President Barack Obama during his holiday vacation in Hawaii.
In his Signing Statement, President Obama said he was putting his signature to the NDAA because “the Act authorizes $662 billion in funding for the defense of the United States and its interests abroad.” Further the President wrote, “…despite having serious reservations with certain provisions that regulate the detention, interrogation, and prosecution of suspected terrorists … I want to clarify that my Administration will not authorize the indefinite military detention without trial of American citizens.”
The detention of suspected terrorists are described under Subtitle D – Counterterrorism, Sections 1021 and 1022 of the NDAA. Those detention sections affirm that the authority of the President under the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF), a joint resolution passed in the immediate aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks, includes the power to detain, via the Armed Forces, any person “who was part of or substantially supported al-Qaeda, the Taliban, or associated forces that are engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners, and anyone who commits a belligerent act against the U.S. or its coalition allies in aid of such enemy forces, under the law of war, without trial, until the end of the hostilities authorized by the [AUMF]. The 2012 NDAA text authorizes trial by military tribunal.
The American Civil Liberties Union, Amnesty International, Human Rights First, Human Rights Watch, and editorials published in The New York Times and other media warned that these sections violated the U. S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.
U. S. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont cautioned: “The legislation could also give future presidents the authority to throw American citizens into prison for life without charges or a trial. This bill also contains misguided provisions that in the name of fighting terrorism essentially authorize the indefinite imprisonment of American citizens without charges.”
Others said Congress was re-defining the entire United States as a battlefield and that “codifying by law the indefinite detention on American soil is a very dangerous step.”
Sections 1021 and 1022 – under some legal interpretations – would allow indefinite detention of U. S. citizens under military authority after only suspicion of participating in terrorism – without charge or trial.
Then California U. S. Senator Diane Feinstein went through three versions of a compromise amendment to Section 1021 that was adopted by a 98 to 1 vote not long before President Obama signed the NDAA into law. But even though the Feinstein amendment is supposed to preserve current law concerning U. S. citizens and lawful resident aliens detained within the territory of the United States and Sen. Feinstein’s intent was to remove the requirement of military detention for terrorism suspects arrested in the United States, some legal scholars I have talked with say Sections 1021 and 1022 are not necessary and are dangerous threats to American civil liberties.
The ACLU argues: “Senator Feinstein’s bill addresses the question of whether American citizens can be indefinitely detained within the United States, but it doesn’t do anything to reinforce the longstanding ban on the military being used inside the United States itself to detain American citizens, and it also doesn’t stop this president and future presidents from making worldwide claims of indefinite detention authority.”
I took the confusion to 49-year-old Christopher Anders, J. D., Senior Legal Counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union in Washington, D. C.
Interview:
Christopher Anders, J.D., Senior Legal Counsel, American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Washington, D. C. : “This is a really big deal! For the first time in about sixty years, Congress passed legislation that allows this president and any future presidents to have the military put into military detention people without charge or trial – potentially for the rest of their lives based on suspicion alone. And there is no limitation by geography or by time or anything else. So, if there is an allegation that somebody has a relationship to a terrorist organization – even if that is all it is, an allegation – that can be enough to put someone into a military prison for the rest of their lives.
WHO NOW IS IN CONTROL OF EXECUTIVING THIS NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT?
Presumably it’s the Defense Department. But one of the things that is amazing about it (statute) is that it does not tell you who it is who is making the decision. So it says that the president has this authority, but it’s not saying is it the president alone who makes this decision. Is it people in the military itself? Is it civilians in the military? Is it government bureaucrats somewhere? And I think that’s one of the many, many problems with this legislation is that there is this enormous bestowal of power on the executive branch without the kinds of checks that you would expect to see when you have civil liberties at stake.
WHAT IS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THIS NEW NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT STATUTE AND THE PATRIOT ACT?
Well, I think they are both examples of Congress running around scared and passing legislation that the country will later regret – turning over to the president the ability to go into peoples’ lives to interfere with the way people are living based on suspicion alone and without a lot of oversight.
For the ACLU, we believe that if the president or the military were to use this kind of power within the United States against United States citizens, we believe it would be unconstitutional. The constitution should provide that kind of protection against the military being used to indefinitely detain American citizens. So that’s why we think it’s a big mess that Congress created. It’s a big mess that President Obama signed into law. And they have an obligation to the entire country and to the world to fix that.
ISN’T IT TRUE THAT UNDER THIS ACT AS IT IS WORDED NOW, ANY AMERICAN COULD END UP UNDER MILITARY AUTHORITY AND HELD AWAY FROM THE NORMAL AMERICAN LEGAL SYSTEM?
Yeah, will I think the problem with the way this bill is drafted is it was done in secret. The Senate twice in an Armed Services Committee held secret markups of this bill behind closed doors. No one was allowed into that room. It was then later re-drafted in a conference committee, again behind closed doors. And the product that came out is something that people are still scratching their heads about. There are almost as many opinions on what this does as there are people looking at it!
NDAA Sections 1021 and 1022

NOT LONG AFTER PRESIDENT OBAMA SIGNED THIS NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT ON DECEMBER 31, NEW YEAR’S EVE, I TALKED WITH PROFESSOR MARK TUSHNET AT HARVARD LAW SCHOOL AND HE SAID THIS ACT IS BOTH ‘UNNECESSARY AND DANGEROUS.’
Yeah, we’re ten years out from 9/1. Osama bin Laden is dead. The United States is out of Iraq. The government is trying to figure out how to pull out of Afghanistan. There is no reason at this point that Congress should decide that it’s going to pass this new indefinite detention statute, which is unlike anything that’s passed since the McCarthy era.
RIGHT, AND THE WORD ‘TERRORISM’ TODAY IS GOING TO BE USED WITH THE SAME KIND OF ABUSE POTENTIAL AS ‘COMMUNIS’ WAS DURING THE
MC CARTHY ERA.

And I think that the important thing that everyone has to remember is that the government makes mistakes. And I think if you were to look at one of the main benefits of having a criminal justice system is that when you have a criminal justice system, there is a requirement that there be a proof beyond a reasonable doubt in court that the person committed a crime. When you put the government to that test and you give the defendant the opportunity to prove his or her innocence, the chances that you are mistakenly imprisoning the wrong person go down.
But if you are putting people in prison potentially for the rest of their lives based on some government bureaucrat’s say so or someone’s suspicion here or there, we know there are hundreds of thousands of people on No Fly lists. Most of those people do not belong there. We believe that would still be unconstitutional to do that. But again, the problem is that can take a very long time to prove that to a court and to get a court to make that kind of decision. In the meantime, the person can be held in prison for potentially a very long time.
SOMEONE COMES AND SAYS YOU ARE UNDER ARREST AS A TERRORIST .WHAT IS THE VERY FIRST THING THAT YOU DO?
(laughs) Well, I think if anyone does get into that situation, certainly contact a lawyer, certainly contact the ACLU. We are very committed to making sure that this law is not used that way and we’re very committed to defending anybody who believes that it is being used against them that way.
IS THERE A NATIONAL 800 NUMBER THAT EVERY AMERICAN LISTENING COULD USE TO CONTACT THE ACLU IF THEY WERE ARRESTED UNDER THE NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT?
We don’t have an 800 number, but certainly the ACLU has an ACLU state affiliatein every state as well as the national ACLU based in New York. And all those ACLU state affiliates are very interested in litigation and all of them represent people in court. They are all places where people can go to get legal services.
WHAT IF THE DEFENSE DEPARTMENT ON THE MILITARY SIDE ARRESTS AN AMERICAN CITIZEN UNDER THE NDAA AND THEY ARE TAKEN TO THE MILITARY SIDE AND THEY AREN’T EVEN GIVEN THE RIGHT TO A PHONE CALL?
It’s certainly the reason why we need to have the laws we have and the due process protections that we have.
FROM THE AMERICAN CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION POINT OF VIEW, THE NDAA IS ERODING WHAT WE THOUGHT WE HAD AS CIVIL LIBERTIES BEFORE DECEMBER 31ST, 2011.
Yeah, and I think part of it is a problem with the idea that the United States is at war everywhere and that the military should be used everywhere. I think where most Americans are is that most Americans recognize a role for the military in protecting the country. That doesn’t extend to people picking up American citizens or anybody else in the United States or around the world. The place where the U. S. military should be operating are the places where Congress has made the decision that the United States really should be using the military. And right now, that’s in Arfghanistan. And if the president needs more authority, the president should go back to Congress and say, ‘We need to use the military here or there.’
But for Congress to just say, ‘Here, Mr. President, here is all this power. Use the military anywhere you want in the world and pick up without charge or trial anyone who you or anyone working for you has a relationship to a terrorist organization – well, we’ve extended the battlefield to a worldwide battlefield.’
As a result, we have eroded the civil liberties that everybody has walking down peaceful streets.
AND THE ENTIRE AMERICAN PUBLIC IS ESSENTIALLY PUT INTO THE POSITION OF BEING SUBJECTS OF SUSPICION BY THEIR OWN GOVERNMENT.
Well, I think one of the other things that we want to impress upon Congress is that Congress made this mess. Courts did not make this mess. President Obama on his own did not make this mess. Congress made this mess! And Congress has an obligation to fix it and Pres. Obama has the obligation to work with Congress to fix it.
If Arrested as Terrorist, What Do You Do?
COULD YOU SAY TO THIS AUDIENCE WHAT YOU AS AN ATTORNEY FOR THE ACLU WOULD RECOMMEND THAT EVERYBODY DO IF THEY ARE EVERY ARRESTED AS A ‘TERRORIST’ UNDER THE NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT?

And that is a card that tells you the basic rights you have anytime that you are questioned by any law enforcement, any time you are arrested, anytime you are put into somebody else’s custody, government’s custody. Those rights are rights that every American should have an expectation to get.
And so, I guess what I would urge is that people become familiar with that. And I think that’s something that’s going to work in the context of the NDAA, but it also works in the context where lots of people who get pulled over by police for all kinds of things that are not nearly as consequential as any kind of violation of the NDAA’s requirement. It’s really designed to let you know what rights you have and then what rights the police have and what they can do and what they can ask of you under the constitution.
