The contract for the development of Tosan and Alpha oil fields in the Persian Gulf was signed on Monday in a ceremony attended by Iran’s Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi.
The headquarters is supposed to carry out basic studies on the development plan of the two fields before offering its technical and financial proposals.
The development plan of Alpha oil field aims to build a satellite platform to produce a daily amount of 5,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil and transfer it to Resalat offshore platform.
The contract also requires Khatam al-Owsia Headquarters to drill four wells and build an undersea pipeline of over 25 kilometers (km).
The studies conducted by the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) show that the in-place oil reserve of Alpha oil field is about 80 million barrels with an extractable amount of about 12 million barrels.
The main goal of developing Tosan oil field is the early production of 10,000 bpd of crude oil in the first phase and the assessment of the impact of water injection into the field in the second phase.
Four new wells will be drilled in the field and an 18-inch pipeline will be built to carry oil to Hengam field production facilities near Kish Island. The pipeline will include 35 km of undersea and 20 km of onshore pipelines.
In-place oil reserves of Tosan oil field have been estimated to be about 411 million barrels. Extractable reserves have been put at 53-70 million barrels before and 107 million barrels after water injection.

“Iraq will not participate in the negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 – permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany – but on the sidelines of the meeting will help bring the views of the two sides closer,” Dabbagh said on Tuesday.
The Iraqi government spokesman rejected the reports about Baghdad’s efforts to hold a joint session between Iran and the US, however, saying Baghdad welcomes any convergence among Iran, the US and the EU.
“Iran and Iraq are two independent countries and Baghdad is determined to assume a great role in resolving the existing disputes, because this is to the benefit of all the parties,” he added.
Iran and the P5+1 agreed to hold the next round of the talks in Baghdad on May 23, 2012.
The two sides had previously held two rounds of negotiations, one in Geneva, Switzerland, in December 2010, and another in Istanbul, Turkey, in January 2011.
The US, Israel and some of their allies accuse Tehran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program.
Iran has repeatedly dismissed the Western allegations over its nuclear activities, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and an IAEA member, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

Anoushiravan Mohesni, who is also the head of Iran-Indonesia parliamentary friendship group, told Fars News Agency on Tuesday that the Baghdad negotiations would hopefully lead to the Western side “taking Iran off the sanctions list and recognizing its righteousness in the use of peaceful nuclear energy”.
The Iranian lawmaker also stressed that the Islamic Republic has followed a “proper” course ever since the beginning of talks on its nuclear energy program, despite the fact that the West has tried to find a “new excuse” each time.

“The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is well aware that Iran is not seeking to access nuclear weapons and that the production of such weapons has no place in the Islamic Republic’s strategy,” Bijan Nobaveh Vatan said on Tuesday.
On February 22, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said the Islamic Republic considers the pursuit and possession of nuclear weapons “a grave sin” from every logical, religious and theoretical standpoint.
“There is no doubt the decision makers in the countries opposing us know well that Iran is not after nuclear weapons because the Islamic Republic, logically, religiously and theoretically, considers the possession of nuclear weapons a grave sin and believes the proliferation of such weapons is senseless, destructive and dangerous,” the Leader said.
Nobaveh Vatan added that “the righteousness of the Islamic Republic in the nuclear issues has been proved today and [even] the Western powers confess to this reality.”
Iran and the P5+1 group – the US, China, Russia, Britain and France plus Germany – have agreed to hold substantive talks on Tehran’s nuclear energy program in Baghdad on May 23, 2012.
